“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely / the world offers itself to your imagination / calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting – / over and over announcing your place / in the family of things.” — Mary Oliver, Wild Geese
I reread this poem by Mary Oliver often; especially when I feel like I have lost my footing on the path forward. It reminds me that I am not alone, even in moments when that is hard to believe. As a therapist, I hope that therapy can be one of many things reminding you that you are not alone.
I approach therapy with a combination of person-centered and existential counseling philosophy. My job is to provide a safe and nonjudgmental place that honors the bravery, vulnerability, and authenticity it takes just to show up. I truly believe in approaching with empathy, curiosity, openness, and unconditional positive regard for my clients. I want to hear your story for what it is.
As a bookworm, I also find myself reaching for stories, myths, and metaphors often in therapy. I love to use creative tools like poetry and literature to hone in on personal meaning and enhance self-understanding for my clients. I also use parts work in therapy to cultivate self-compassion, clarify values, and decrease internal conflict. I see therapy as a place to hunker down away from the pressures of everyday life and dive deep into the big questions: How do we create meaning in everyday life? How do we escape old patterns? How do we learn to understand and embrace ourselves?
I have a passion for working with people navigating anxiety and OCD-related symptoms. I am also neurodiversity-affirming and enjoy helping those with ADHD and those on the autism spectrum feel safe and supported. A great deal of my work involves unlearning some of the shame and fear that can take root due to systemic issues and interpersonal experiences. I enjoy helping people navigate existential concerns, identity, self-understanding, meaning-making, life transitions, self-esteem, and more.
If you feel like I could be the right fit for you, please feel free to reach out for a complimentary 15-minute consultation. Let’s talk.
